The fundemantals of IMPACT PAINTING

I've done one painting to date that I would term "IMPACT PAINTING". I am sure that there must be other artists who have experimented in this way. I don't know who they are. The painting, Birth and Re-Birth, was created by pinning 3 of those plastic exam gloves filled with primary paint to a piece of wood and then blasting it with a shot gun. I have been fascinated with the interaction of color for a long time. By adding the spontaneity of impact, I give the paint its own venue in which to create images. My idea is to follow the images that the paint itself has brought into existence.

Birth and Re-Birth was the first in a series of paintings that were executed with only primary colors, black and white. If you look closely, you can see the shotgun holes next to the crescent moon. The feeling of time and space galaxy and stars is conveyed with this unique texture. In addition to the base painting, I added a colored pencil drawing that I had done a couple of years earlier and wanted to preserve. It's title was Re-Birth.

So, the next phase of this idea is to begin in 2010. I am planning to rent out a paint ball facility and host an Art pARTy of a different kind. All of my member artists will be invited to an impact painting pARTy. We will set up wooden pieces that the artists will be able to shoot at with primary colored paints. They will each have black and white paint on a palette, 2 brushes and assorted rags, paper towles and sponges to work with. As well as any materials that they would like to add. It is mixed media after all. When we're finished we'll put them on the website and hold a contest that visitors can vote on. Then to follow that up, we'll have an Art pARTy to display all of the work. The winning Artist will receive a prize to be determined.
