Despite Arson . . ."The Show Must Go On!"

This is the last weekend to see Burien Actor’s Theater’s version of "Coney Island Christmas" . . . the roadshow. Sunday is sold out, just 12 more tickets split between Friday at 8 and Saturday at 8. Don't miss this laugh riot.

NOTE the new address for "Coney Island Christmas" is 216 SW 153rd, Burien WA. http://burienlittletheatre.org/blog/2013/12/coney-island-christmas-moves/

According to police, the fire that caused $150,000 worth of damage at the Burien Actor’s Theater early morning on December 10th, was arson. It almost seems like a blessing in disguise since the troupe was in the process of asking for donations and gathering funds to find another space in 2014 anyway. The city of Burien owns the current space and the lease is up. In the wake of this tragedy, the Company’s donors have come to the rescue. I personally foresee a bright and shiny future for Burien Actor’s Theater.

True to the spirit of Theater, the troupe picked itself up, brushed itself off and pushed forward. The “Hope in Hard Times” pop up exhibit by the Highline Historical Society became the new space. It works really well since they were already linked to the show, which takes place during the mid-thirties.

I have to say, I'm really impressed with the way this Burien Actors Theatre Troupe has banded together to make "Coney Island Christmas" a truly wonderful Christmas experience. It's the spirit of Christmas that is happening in these performances. You should catch it this weekend if it all possible. Tell them Sharon sent you!

Anyone with information about the arson is asked to call 1-800-55-ARSON.

More from B.A.T.
BAT needs your help! Please send an email to the Burien City Council at council@burienwa.gov asking them, as BAT's landlord, to rebuild BAT's theater space. (If possible, send it in before 5 pm today to make the next Council packet.) Here is one example of what BAT was cc'ed on:

To Whom it May Concern:

Although we do not live in the area (we live on the Kitsap Peninsula), my husband and I have been to the Burien Little Theatre on more than several occasions.

One of my co-workers has performed there, and it’s been our pleasure to have seen her perform at the BAT/BLT. Each time we’ve come, we have dinner in downtown Burien, and have made several purchases at the local businesses as well.

It would be a shame if the theatre is not rebuilt. The performances we’ve seen have been wonderful, and have never regretted making the trip to see each one. We truly enjoy our BAT experience, as well as the town of Burien itself!

I’m writing to encourage Burien’s City Council to continue committing to the performing arts, and rebuild the theatre for BAT.

Sincerely,

Tori Forbes
