A Tale of Tolerance for Christmas.

"Coney Island Christmas" is my most recent venture in Theatre . . . scenic painting and set design.

The play is written by Donald Margulies
Co-Directed by Maggie Larrick & Rochelle Flynn

The Story goes like this . . .

The lights come up and we are looking into a girl's bedroom in Southern California.

Clara, played by Emily Dumaran, is busy scheming to get out of participating in her school's Christmas play. She is "feeling ill" and her great-grandmother Shirley has come to check in on her. Grandma Shirley, played by Vera Werre, proceeds to tell Clara her own story of a memorable Christmas pageant that changed her life.

My job as set designer was to devise moving set pieces that could roll on and off stage with few hands. These pieces also require sizing for minimal storage space . . .

More on my experience later. Until then, CLICK HERE to read a review from the B-Town blog.
